Fraxses Delivers 1 Unified View for Leading Insurer
Business Need
The insurer manages much of its portfolio through binder holders operating across multiple platforms. These off-platform portfolios span commercial, engineering, marine, motor, non-motor, retail and niche insurance. To improve risk oversight, monitor portfolio performance, engage more effectively with binder holders and support reporting and actuarial analysis, the insurer needed a reliable, consolidated view of this fragmented data.
Prior to the implementation of Intenda’s solution, the insurer required each binder holder to submit a monthly Risk Management Pack covering new business, terminations, in-force policies, client and billing details, renewal performance, top exposures and special risks, such as properties with thatched roofs.
Challenges
Submissions were manual and came in various formats, including spreadsheets, XML, CSV, compressed archives and email attachments. Reports were human-oriented and not suited to automated data integration. Data quality issues such as such as inconsistent naming, formatting, date and VAT discrepancies and spelling errors further complicated the process, as did the fact that there was no consistent method for tracking submission dates or file versions.
Solution
We implemented a robust, scalable data pipeline hosted on AWS to automate and streamline the entire process. The solution mirrors binder submissions from an SFTP site and tracks changes with automatic queuing and reprocessing. It dynamically parses a wide range of file types and formats, and uses SQL (dbt) and R scripts to perform automated data extraction, validation, and transformation. Key metrics are consolidated into centralised, topic-specific data tables, which feed into Power BI dashboards for real-time management insight and binder engagement. A web-based interface supports domain maintenance, while scheduled processing every three hours ensures the data remains current and actionable.
Outcomes
The insurer now has full visibility of its off-platform business, without having to force standardised data submissions. The solution enables proactive renewal and trend management, supports binder engagement, improves actuarial reporting with validated data, and provides a cost-effective alternative to full system integration.
