Opus Development Framework: Ideal for delivering your bespoke solution

At Intenda, we are firm believers that the advantages bespoke solutions offer over off-the-shelf products make them well worth the investment. Our recent blogpost outlined the Top 3 Advantages of Bespoke Software Development, and in this one, we’ll focus on our development framework, Opus, and some of the key benefits it delivers.

Of course, going the bespoke solution route is not without risks. There are many examples of organisations investing heavily in custom software, only to find that the solution they end up with does not perform as expected, fails to gain traction within their organisation, and ultimately fails. The fact that bespoke solutions typically take time to build is a key consideration. Long running development projects carry a high cost, and can result in businesses failing to capitalise on advantages before the window of opportunity closes.

Intenda’s teams use the Opus development framework, a low-code/no-code platform that is one of the Fraxses platform’s four key modules, to create bespoke solutions. In Opus, the user interface is coded using configuration rather than UI coding. This unique approach reduces complexity and enables our customers to reap all the benefits that bespoke software offers, without facing the risks or incurring the costs that are usually associated with custom development.

Built on the leading UI framework React, the Opus development framework allows developers to create applications that interface with Fraxses Data Objects through JSON dashboards. These applications include front-end solutions for both desktop and mobile, mobile-specific apps that can tap into the native features of handheld devices, and plugins that extend the lifespan of legacy systems.

3 Key Advantages of the Opus Development Framework

  • Opus can connect to existing RESTful APIs, thus supporting a rapid development process and enabling our teams to deliver the solutions our customers need when they need them. Opus allows for feature delivery times to be reduced by as much as 300% – a small development team can typically complete feature enhancements in a matter of hours, minor features in days, medium-sized features in a week and large features in under a month.

  • Since it is a configuration-driven tool, the Opus development framework does not require advanced development skills. In contrast to typical development teams, Opus teams are composed primarily of junior members, with fewer senior developers. Together with the swift project timelines Opus assures, the reduced reliance on senior resources results in significantly lower development costs, without compromising on quality.

  • All applications created in the Opus development framework use the same code base. This eliminates the need to maintain different UI code bases, thus reducing the total cost of ownership of the software. Maintenance tasks such as framework upgrades and library updates are handled by Intenda’s Platform team, allowing development teams to focus on providing our customers with business value.

While the Opus development framework is not available as a commercial product, its power can be readily accessed via our Bespoke Development offering. Intenda recently created a bespoke mobile app for one of our key customers, delivering the first iteration in just six weeks. This project demonstrates the power of Opus, which allowed for the customer to be involved in the development process, and offered the flexibility to implement changes in requirements at short notice and without affecting the project timeline.
